15 tricks on minimizing the fuel consumption 2: Mental Powers

We have counted down how to save fuel from 1 to 10 through mechanical techniques. But as we mentioned the rule that mental plays an essential role in dealing with driving on the role, it also applies here on fuel-saving.

Before we getting into the results, here are 5 more tricks that you should pay attention to.

11. Keep your distance and drive ahead

It is important to be careful when driving, especially when driving economically. If you keep a longer distance, you can use the motor brake more often. It is advantageous to observe traffic lights from a greater distance in order to avoid sharp braking if possible. The less often the brake pedal is pressed, the less fuel is used.

12. Save energy

In addition to the driving style and condition of the vehicle, fuel consumption is influenced by a whole range of other factors.

Firstly, there are power guzzlers such as powerful headlights, other light sources or audio and video devices. These can consume a large part of the engine energy via the alternator, which also means additional consumption.

Secondly, it is the air conditioning system (automatic air conditioning), the compressor of which consumes a significant part of the engine power. Running air conditioning can increase consumption by 5-20%. The lower the engine power, the higher the consumption.

13. Pay attention to the correct tire pressure

Don't forget to check the tire pressure regularly. When the tire pressure is reduced by 0.5 bar, consumption increases by up to 15%. The setting angles must also be checked regularly.

14. Let your car leak

(For automatic transmission)

Incidentally, dynamic driving does not necessarily lead to waste. For example, the gentle increases in speed recommended above can be replaced by the short pushes, after which the vehicle will continue to coast for a while when the accelerator pedal is released. With this method you can also achieve economical consumption. Such a trick is best suited for long-distance trips.

15.Fill your car with Super Plus petrol

Reduction of fuel consumption by approx. 8-12%, which is much cheaper;

positive effect on the engine: the fuel supply and combustion systems work more efficiently with modern drive types;

Performance increase: The options of a turbo engine provided by the manufacturer are used, so that the traction is improved at higher speeds;

Flexible engine control: The drive is more willing to respond to all of the driver's wishes. More agile speed increases occur both in the city and on the motorway;

The accelerator pedal has to be operated less frequently when driving on the freeway, which significantly reduces consumption and extends the life of the engine.

Results of eco-driving tests

Careful compliance with all of the above rules of economical driving sometimes leads to impressive results. The small car Skoda Citigo used only 3.7 liters of petrol for the 234-kilometer route at the traditional eco-rally in Europe. This result is particularly impressive because the average driving speed was around 70 km / h with a consumption of 1.58 liters per 100 kilometers. It must be emphasized that the manufacturer had specified the fuel consumption of 3.9 liters / 100 km outside the city for a 1-liter version of the engine with an output of 60 hp and a torque of 95 Nm for this model.

It is obvious that if you want to achieve such results, it is better to prefer the light, compact cars with low energy consumption and aerodynamic shape. A heavy SUV with a powerful engine does not go very well with Eco Driving. Conversely, such knowledge and skills will always be useful for both a small car and a large off-road vehicle.
